SIAMS

Our Legal requirement
SIAMS stands for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools.
Section 48 of the Education Act 2005 and The Education (School Inspection) (England) Regulations 2009 (SI1564) requires that all schools designated as having a religious character, must undergo a Section 48 inspection (SIAMS) every 5 years.
Purpose and focus of a SIAMS inspection
The principal objective of a SIAMS inspection is to evaluate the impact of the school’s distinctive Christian vision on the lives of all pupils and adults. It explores how this vision enables the whole community to flourish and live out the school’s unique Christian foundation.
The inspection is centred on one primary question: "How then shall we live?" This is explored through seven key strands of school life:
- Vision and Provision: How the school's theological vision drives its daily work and priorities.
- Spirituality and Character: How the vision supports spiritual growth and the moral development of every child.
- Social Action: How pupils are encouraged to be "courageous advocates" for change in the world.
- Collective Worship: The ways in which prayer and reflection bring the community together.
- Religious Education: The effectiveness of the RE curriculum and its impact on learning.
Culture and Continuity: How leadership ensures the school's Christian identity is sustained and inclusive for all.
